During World War One many British Soldiers used to be given a little bear by their sweethearts and loved ones. These bears had eyes that were high up on their heads which peeped out of the soldiers' top pockets.
I started making replicas of these bears many years ago and they are still one of my favourite bears. I name them after real soldiers that fought in this war and I have even had customers take the bears to their namesakes' grave.
Wilfred Owen has been named by his adopted new owner. He is made from spikey pale golden mohair and has been plucked, shaded and waxed with added faux stitches for a "Well Loved" look. He has blue lass eyes and a stitched, waxed nose.He is fully cotter pin jointed and stuffed with Kapok, a natural fibre often used in early bear making. He has tiny steel discs inside him for a weighty feel and comes wearing a sash made in the same colours as during the war, pinned together with a rusty old safety pin with a bronze effect "Peace" charm attached to him.
