Sold These bears will be going to live in a museum.
During World War One many British Soldiers used to be given a little bear by their sweethearts and loved ones. These bears had eyes that were high up on their heads which peeped out of the soldiers' top pockets.
These are one of my versions of these bears.
These Soldier bears are made from a red mohair on a lighter background similar to a Farnell Soldier Bear. They have brown glass eyes and stitched, waxed noses. One is slightly bigger than the other at approximately 33/4 inches tall and the other one is just under 31/2 inches and they are both fully cotter pin jointed. They are stuffed with kapok and have steel shavings in their bodies for added weight.
They wear a replica of the official medal ribbon fastened with a rusty old safety pin and a bronze effect "Hope" charm . I have plucked, shaded and waxed them a little to give signs of ageing.
These bears will be going to live in a museum.
