Roland is now Sold

During World War One many British Soldiers used to be given a little bear by their sweethearts and loved ones. These bears had eyes that were high up on their heads which peeped out of the soldiers' top pockets. This little bear is my version of one of these bears.

Roland Thornton was a soldier during WW!. This bear is named after him.

Roland is made from a light golden mohair. He is 31/2" tall and heavily treated to look "Well loved". He has odd glass eyes in different shades  of blue and a stitched, waxed nose. He is fully cotter pin jointed and filled with kapok. used in the making of early bears, with steel shot in his body for added weight.

Roland comes wearing a red, white and blue ribbon attached to him with a rusty looking safety pin and has a peace charm added to the ribbon
