For anyone who doesn't know the story of the Soldier Bears, during World War One many British Soldiers used to be given a little bear by their sweethearts and loved ones. These bears had eyes that were high up on their heads which peeped out of the soldiers' top pockets.

This is one of my versions of these little bears. Greensit was a Soldier during WW1 and this bear is named after him. On the list of serving Soldiers he has a ? by his first name so I can only give him a Surname.

Greensit is made from scruffy mohair in grey with black strands on a pale gold backing. I have plucked and aged to give the appearance of an old well loved bear. He has brown glass eyes, one larger and darker than the other, and a stitched nose. He is approximately 31/2inches tall  and fully cotter pin jointed. He is filled with kapok, used in the making of early bears, and has steel shot in his body for added weight.

Greensit wears a tatty red and white sash tied together with a rusty looking safety pin with a "hope" charm around his neck.
