Samuel Churchley  was a Corporal in the  94th Field Company Royal Engineers during WW1. Sadly he died aged 36 during the conflict. This bear is named after him.
This little Soldier Bear is approximately 31/2 inches tall and made from a scruffy grey mohair on a beige cotton backing. He has one large and one small blue eye high up on his head like the original Soldier Bears that peeped out of the Soldier's pocket. He has a stitched nose and comes wearing a red, white and blue sash  with a "hope" charm attached to it by a rusty old safety pin.  Items surrounding him are not included

Samuel is fully cotter pin jointed and stuffed with kapok, used in the making of early bears. He has steel shot in his body for added weight. I have plucked his fur, shaded and waxed him to give him the appearance of a "well loved" bear.
