During World War One many British Soldiers used to be given a little bear by their sweethearts and loved ones. These bears had eyes that were high up on their heads which peeped out of the soldiers' top pockets.
Private Alfred Overd  was in the 1st/8th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. This little bear is named after him.
Alfred is approximately  31/2 inches tall when standing and made from mohair on a golden cotton backing. He has blue glass eyes- one larger than the other to look like a replacement was needed for the lost eye. I have plucked, shaded and waxed him and added faux stitching for a "well loved" look. He is stuffed with kapok, used in the making of early bears and has steel shavings in his body for added weight.Alfred is fully cotter pin jointed.
Alfred comes wearing a red, white and blue sash around his neck tied together with a rusty looking safety pin holding a charm with the word Hope on it.
