2 Lt Harry Appleyard was an actual Soldier in WW1. This little one is made in his honour. Harry is approximately 31/2 inch tall and made from vintage upholstery mohair which has been plucked and shaded. He has faux stitching and other treatments added to him.
Harry has blue glass eyes and a sparsely stitched, waxed nose and is fully cotterpin jointed. He is filled with kapok, used in the making of early bears and has added steel shot in his body for extra weight. looking a bit desheveled Harry has a tatty red white and blue ribbon with a rusty old safety pin and a Hope charm around his neck
During World War One many British Soldiers used to be given a little bear by their sweethearts and loved ones. These bears had eyes that were high up on their heads which peeped out of the soldiers' top pockets. The little bears on this page are my version of these bears Today they are much sought after and fetch many hundreds of pounds.
