Ernest is now Sold
During World War One many British Soldiers used to be given a little bear by their sweethearts and loved ones. These bears had eyes that were high up on their heads which peeped out of the soldiers' top pockets. This little bear is one of my versions of these bears .
Private Ernest White was a Soldier during WW1. This little bear is named after him.
Ernest is 31/2 inches tall and made from a plum coloured mohair just slightly darker than in the photos. He has light mauve coloured glass eyes with black pupils and a sparsely stitched nose. He is five way cotterpin jointed and filled with kapok, used in the making of early bears. He has steel shot in his body for added weight.
Ernest has been plucked, shaded, waxed and had faux stitches added to him for a "well loved" bear and he comes with a red, white and blue shabby sash tied together with a rusty old safety pin with a bronze coloured "Hope" charm attached.
